Once a year the ADFP associaition of freestyle disco professionals put on the competition of the year to find the best dancers in the area.
On Sunday 23rd January the Big Dance Company attended the west coast of England Freestyle and Sow championships in Newport in Wales.
We only took a handful of dancers as we had the British hip hop championships coming up, but we did really well. The competition was very hard, as the best schools turned up to compete for the titles. We were also concerned that we would struggle due to the fact that due to our Hip Hop commitments we had not been able to train as much and had not competed since last October. However our dancers done us proud again, by fighting their way to the finals up against some amazing competition.
In freestyle Nicola Ladner from Mounts Bay who was dancing her first time in Intermediates finished 4th place and Robyn Woolman 12 from humphrey Davey school finished 6th in her section, and Catran Dugdale also from Mounts Bay School finished 5th in the championship section.
Then it was time for the Slow dance section and Sophie Walke 17, managed to wow the judges with her one minute slow spot and was given the title of ADFP west coast champion and a sash and trophy. Catran Dugdale also competed in the highest grade championship section and won first place getting the under 12 Wales and West championship title.
Other finalists who managed to battle through round after round were Luke Crook 17, finishing 2nd in adult Intermediate, Nicola Ladner 5th in U14 Intermediate, Cassie Brewer 5th in U16 Intermediate and Bonnie Roberts 6th in Under 14 Championship, Emma loiuse Morgan 5th in Adult starter Slowdance final.
In the hip hop section Brett Bullock finished 2nd and Becky Short 3rd in the adult championship section and Megan Barkham 3rd in the under 12 championship hip hop and Robyn Woolman 2nd in under 14 championship hip hop.
Well done to all dancers and congratulations to your title wins to Sophie Walke and Catran Dugdale.
well done to all of our friends from other dance schools, you were all amazing !!
